Southwestern Randolph High School’s Men’s Soccer team won the 2025 Men’s Soccer 4A State Championship by defeating Newton-Conover High School by the score of 3-0 on Friday, November 21. The team finished the season with a record of 27-1. Fernando Hernandez-Dominguez was named Most Valuable Player of the state championship game. This is Southwestern Randolph High School’s first state team championship for a men’s team in school history.
Since the passing of teammate Pedro Ortiz, in the spring of 2025, the team was on a mission to honor his name and play for him. During that two-year stretch, the team went 52-4 and reached the state finals in 2024 and 2025, winning the regional championship both seasons. Led by their coaches Jimmy Walker and Jeff Tyl, the team worked tirelessly to fulfill those promises made. This senior class has broken every team and individual school record while Fernando Hernandez-Dominguez moved into third place on the NCHSAA All-Time Career Goals Scored list for Men’s Soccer.
